A Little About Me

I am a dog sport hobbyist in S.E. Wyoming. I grew up with dogs and competed in 4-H with our family dog from middle school through high school. When I went off to college I worked as a kennel manager for a Siberian Husky kennel and breed rescue, where I groomed dogs, helped with sled-dog training and took care of 35 Siberian Huskies during show weekends. I learned to mush and a lot more about showing and training dogs. During this time I brought home my first well bred, pure bred dog. A borzoi, Tina. Sadly I lost her at a young age to bloat & torsion. She was followed by two more Borzoi and they were followed by 4 Beaucerons, 3 of whom went on to become certified for Canine Search and Rescue. As our family grew, our time for training and deployment became increasingly limited, and as our dogs aged we knew we may have to close (even if only for a time) the SAR chapter of our lives. I began to think about what was next in terms of dogs, and dog sports. I knew about silkens from my time with my Borzois and started looking into them in 2016, joining many silken groups on facebook, reading everything I could find and planning for my future dog. In March of 2021 I lost my heart and soul dog, and SAR partner, Brahma. And began my search in earnest, not realizing I would find my first silken within weeks and bring him home a month later. I was not by any means done grieving my loss, but Calcifer was exactly what my soul needed. It did not take long for me to be absolutely in love with the Silken Windhound breed. They are elegant medium sized sighthounds, with beautiful silky coats and amazing temperaments. They have been stewarded by a dedicated community of people who put health and temperament first. I truly cannot imagine my life in the future without one. We added our second silken to the family a five months after our last Beauceron passed, and much as it was for me, Reese has helped to heal my husbands heart after the loss of his partner, Dreamy. We are hoping to add a to our pack in 2023, and if we are lucky that addition will be the start of a legacy.
