Calcifer is a dream dog and everything I could have hoped for in my first Silken Windhound.  He has a phenomenal temperament, he has never met a stranger and we have yet to meet a dog he doesn't want as his new best friend.  He is stable and calm in public and takes every new thing in stride.  He easily finished his conformation championship by 18 month of age and his grand championship in 2024, with limited showing, and with nice feedback from judges and fellow exhibitors. In 2025 Calcifer achieved that elusive ISWS major and finished his ISWS championship!  We likely show on a very limited basis in the future, because Calcifer truly loves being in the ring.

Calcifer is quite biddable,  he loves to earn snacks and praise and catches on to new behaviors quickly.  He picked up on nosework easily and is starting to have a lot of drive for it.  He easily completed is NW1 & NW2 in NACSW, and novice titles in UKC nosework and USCSS nosework.  We are currently working toward our NW3 & NW3 Elite titles in NACSW.

Due to my own inexperience/ and distance from venues Calcifer did not get any exposure to lure coursing as a puppy and has had only limited opportunities for training/fun runs since 2022.   In 2023 Cal ran in his first NOTRA meet with promising outcomes.  His lure drive has improved with each exposure and I hope to have him on the field more in the future.

Most importantly, Calcifer is an amazing dog in the home.  He is energetic and playful with a nice off switch.  He loves our children and has been an amazing friend to our many foster dogs.  He shows an incredible sensitivity with fearful dogs, and can always be depended on to be neutral with dogs who are unsure.  With puppies he nerfs his play to their level often laying flat on the ground for them to climb and play on him.   He is all I could have asked for in a dog.
